Our Kitchen: Before & After

Well, our kitchen is finally (mostly) finished.  We’ve worked really hard on it and we want to show off our hard work.

As a refresher, the kitchen was originally white and vey simple.

We focused on two goals while redecorating the kitchen: (1) spice up and modernize the decor and (2) separate out the dining area.  To accomplish those goals, we prepped the walls and painted the kitchen using Benjamin Moore’s Sienna Clay (trim is Benjamin Moore’s White Chocolate).  The new paint colors instantly brightened up the space and set the tone for the rest of the house.  We replaced all the moldings and added crown molding to give the space a sophisticated feel.  Then, we added a chandelier to define the dining room.  We still need to add accessories but the basics are there!

The chandelier was Kristin’s favorite part.  She sorted through THOUSANDS of chandeliers before settling on this one from LampsPlus.com.  Installing it was very tricky. We brought out an electrician (“The Electric Man”) to put the chandelier where a recessed light previously lived and add a new switch for it.  He did fabulous (and fast) work.  Here’s a close-up of the chandelier:

The chandelier leaves a beautiful shadow on the ceiling.  Also, the shade (behind the brown metallic design) features its own subtle floral pattern.  The picture really does not do the chandelier justice.

We’ve also been working VERY hard on the living room.  We have put the project temporarily on hold (the baby’s rom just seems like a higher priority in light of a looming due date) but we hope to have the before & after pictures of that soon!
